From Madison to Chicago. Growing up in Wisconsin, I attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I received my BFA in graphic design. During my final two years at Madison, I was fortunate to study under renowned designer John Rieben, who convinced me to start my career in Chicago—landing my first design job at a company called High Sierra. I would spend the next 20+ years at the company and eventually became Vice President of Visual Communications. A family-owned manufacturer of bags, High Sierra allowed me to learn how to be a professional, collaborator, manager, and mentor.

Belts, wallets, ties, and more. Leaving High Sierra for a new adventure with a larger company, I found myself at Randa Accessories. Randa, the world’s largest men’s accessories company, has over 20 licensed brands across multiple categories which included gifting. Through my vision, my team and I were able to take an insignificant category and grow it exponentially into a seasonal powerhouse. Over six years, that gift business provided me with a crash course in storytelling, packaging design, retail presentation, and creating big ideas.

The Lightbulb moment! At this point, a thought popped into my head—were other companies taking the same creative approach that we honed here? Joining forces with Mark, whom I had worked with at Randa, we set out to build a different kind of agency that would utilize our unique skill set to create big ideas for companies and help them drive new business. Years in the making, Tandem Thinking brings together everything I learned from my early days in Madison to now.

Designer for Life. I knew from a very early age that I wanted to make a career out of doing something creative. Always having a love of cars and a general interest in how things work, discovering the field of Industrial Design was a perfect match. After focusing on design in highschool, I went on to get a BS in Industrial Design.

Thrown into the fire. My first job was at a startup consumer electronics company with a small team of passionate people creating innovative mobile products. There, I wore many hats and developed my skills in product design, mechanical engineering, graphic design, and branding. During my time there, I was integral in developing and launching 6 different products.

Accessories and beyond. I had been working at Randa Accessories as a product designer for a couple years before Jeff came aboard. After meeting Jeff and witnessing the transformation he was leading in the packaging department, I knew I had to be a part of it. Over the next couple years I was able to help him create a powerhouse creative department within the company. When it was time for another opportunity, I left to be the creative lead at boutique exhibit design company. During my tenure there, the owner and I were able to grow the company by millions of dollars in revenue.

The call. Jeff and I had continued to stay in touch and when he called me to ask if I would be a part of Tandem, it was an immediate yes. Building Tandem with Jeff has revealed my passion for outside consulting and delivering creative solutions for a vast range of companies and industries.
